In the last year the Asian-American and Pacific Islander community has increasingly been the target of hate and violence, with the recent shooting being only the most recent and horrific example. RPGnet stands in solidarity with that community. We all have an obligation to stand up against racism and bigotry in all its forms. JavaScript is disabled. When is it legal to resell pdfs? Thread starter Crazy 'Scaper Start date Apr 13, Crazy 'Scaper Registered User. The tread about the selling of pdfs on eBay has got me wondering when is it legal to resell pdfs?
For example, lets say someone buys two copies of Green Ronin's Blue Rose. Both products have been bought and paid for, giving the gamer has title to both items and GR gets their cash. In terms of content which I assume is what the IP issue is all about both items are identical.
Now say that this gamer decided to get rid of this game. No-one seems to mind if he sells the book on eBay. The gamer gets paid for it less eBay's cut , the new purchaser doesn't have to buy a new copy from their FLGS meaning one less sale of a new book for GR and GR doesn't see a penny of the sale.
But everyone seems happy with this or at least accepts that that is how things work. So what is the difference if rather than the book it is the CD with the pdf file on it that is being sold? It's the same product. The seller bought it fair and square and GR was recompensed at the time of the original sale just as they were with the other copy. So how is the CD different from the book in terms of the original purchaser's right to resell? Copyrights are not self-enforcing or enforced by the government.
It may have been, of course. But if a seller who has legitimately acquired rights in this way does not make it clear in the listing that this is the case, he or she can hardly blame others for suspecting the worst. I contacted the seller. Short version: He thought the book was PD.
Other books by the same author did not have their copyrights renewed. He thanked me for letting him know and removed the listing. There are may topics talking about whether it is the legla to sell book PDF copies.
